Genetic Analysis of Two Mediterranean Fisheries of Coryphaena hippurus from Malta and Tunis

چکیده

Few genetic studies have been carried out in dolphinfish. Oxendorf & Hunte (1986a,b) compared samples obtained in the Caribbean Sea (Central-West Atlantic) using several physiological characters such as fecundity, growth or sexual maturity. The results obtained lead to the definition of two dolphinfish stocks in the Caribbean Sea. Later, the same samples were examined using allozymes. 16 out of 55 loci were polymorphic, although only 4 loci presented a frequency of the most common allele < 0.95. Comparison of allele frequencies suggested the existence of two groups of individuals coinciding with the groups previously reported with morphological characters. Nevertheless, genetic analysis was carried out using a single polymorphic locus (IDHP-2*) and the statistical analysis did not seem adequate since allele frequencies were not different enough to explain the differentiation found.

Effects of ocean acidification on the larvae of a high-value pelagic fisheries species, mahi-mahi Coryphaena hippurus

Negative impacts of CO2-induced ocean acidification on marine organisms have proven to be variable both among and within taxa. For fishes, inconsistency confounds our ability to draw conclusions that apply across taxonomic groups and highlights the limitations of a nascent field with a narrow scope of study species. Here, we present data from a series of 3 experiments on the larvae of mahi-mahi...

Novel transcriptome assembly and comparative toxicity pathway analysis in mahi-mahi (Coryphaena hippurus) embryos and larvae exposed to Deepwater Horizon oil

The impacts of Deepwater Horizon (DWH) oil on morphology and function during embryonic development have been documented for a number of fish species, including the economically and ecologically important pelagic species, mahi-mahi (Coryphaena hippurus). However, further investigations on molecular events and pathways responsible for developmental toxicity have been largely restricted due to the...

Ultraviolet Radiation Enhances the Toxicity of Deepwater Horizon Oil to Mahi-mahi (Coryphaena hippurus) Embryos.

The 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill resulted in the accidental release of millions barrels of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico. Photoinduced toxicity following coexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation is one mechanism by which polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) from oil spills may exert toxicity. Mahi-mahi (Coryphaena hippurus), an important fishery resource, have positively buoyant, tra...

Assessment of the dolphinfish Coryphaena hippurus (Perciformes: Coryphaenidae) fishery in Pacific Panama.

The dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippunis) is a highly migratory pelagic species commercially exploited by industrial, artisanal and recreational fisheries in tropical and subtropical areas of the world's oceans. Herein, we evaluated the dolphinfish industrial fishery in Pacific Panama for the first time generating a growth model and examining fluctuations in annual total catch and in catch per unit...
